Almost a century has passed since the Golden Age (1910s–1960s). You may assume the familiar names from that era have long since been carved on the tombstones. Surprisingly, some of them are still alive and kicking.
1. Clu Gulager, 92
Clu Gulager is an actor by upbringing. He delivered even more remarkable performances than his father in The Tall Man series in the 1960s, The Killers, and The Last Picture Show. Gulager also directed A Day With the Boys, which earned him a Palme d'Or Award nomination in 1969. However, he has rarely appeared in the spotlight since 2008.
2. Kevin Costner, 66
Kevin Costner is a versatile actor who has a good command of directing and producing. The Academy Award-winning American actor has starred in some of the most important films of the 80s and early 90s, most notably Field of Dreams (1989), Dances with Wolves (1990), and JFK (1991). Costner also recently played supporting roles in Hidden Figures (2016) and Molly's Game (2017).
3. Jenilee Harrison, 62
In her early years, Jenilee Harrison carved out a career as a model and has the title of Miss Hollywood and Miss Young America under her belt. But Harrison had been dreaming of being a great actress since an early age. Her dream came true when she starred as Cindy Snow in the hit television series "Three's Company." The stunning actress has been a spokeswoman for numerous infomercials of late.
4. Barbi Benton, 71
Barbi Benton was a Playboy model but made a name for herself when she dated Hugh Hefner from 1969 to 1976. Later on, she was active as an actress, and was involved in TV series' like Love Boat, Sugar Time!, and Fantasy Island. Benton then got hitched with a real estate developer and had two kids with him. She last made a public appearance in 2014.
5. Betty White, 99
Undoubtedly, Betty White is the most popular American actress of all time. She set the record as the actress who had been on TV for the longest period and still holds the record to date. Not long ago, she voiced the character, Bitey White, in Toy Story 4. And we all hope the treasure of Hollywood can stay with us a bit longer.
6. Dick Van Dyke, 95
Dick Van Dyke is indeed a Jack of all trades and is a talented actor, singer, writer, comedian, and dancer. Dyke started his showbiz career on radio and Broadway and before he was known as Rob Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show. He is still alive and kicking, and recently appeared as Hopscotch the Sasquatch's voice cast on the TV series Kidding.
7. Tim Matherson, 73
Young guys may know Tim Matherson for either Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle or Child's Play, but his acting experience goes far beyond these two. Tim started acting in the comedy series Window On Main Street. In 1978, he made onto the silver screen as one of the leads in the comedy film National Lampoon's Animal House, which soon became his best-known work. At over 70 now, he still seems far from retirement and keeps impressing audiences with his talents.
8. Robert Redford, 84
Born in California, Robert Redford was also meant to be a Hollywood icon. He is famous for his classic roles in The Sting, Butch Cassidy, and the Sundance Kid. Additionally, Redford is also a distinguished director, producer, and entrepreneur. But in 2016, the Hollywood legend announced that he would retire from acting, but would continue directing.
9. Jerry Lee Lewis, 85
Dubbed as "The Killer," Jerry Lee Lewis is famous as a towering pianist but is infamous for his numerous scandals. However, he has survived these and still performs as a country artist and is recording a new album right now. Fun fact: Lewis has been hitched seven times.
10. Sophia Loren, 86
If you list all the renowned beauties of the Hollywood Golden Age, Sophia Loren must rank pretty high. She has played iconic roles in the films Two Women (1961), and Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (1963). Having been away from showbiz for a long time, she staged a comeback in the 2013 short film The Human Voice and the 2020 movie Life Ahead.
11. Loni Anderson, 75
Loni Anderson shot to fame overnight when she starred opposite Steve McQueen in 1966's Nevada Smith. Thanks to her apparent talent, she won dozens of chances to star in other masterpieces. Above them all, Loni is best known for her performance in the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati. Today, she still acts from time to time but focuses more of her time on charitable work.
12. Kim Novak, 88
Born in 1933, Kim Novak had aimed to become the next Rita Hayworth for Columbia Pictures. Starring in the 1954 film Pushover, she achieved fame for her portrayal of Madeleine Elster/Judy Barton in the 1958 Alfred Hitchcock film Vertigo. Novak doesn't act anymore, but she is still a photographer, poet, and visual artist.
13. Christopher Plummer, 91
You may not be familiar with Christopher Plummer's name, but you must recognize his face because of the greatest musical drama in history—The Sound of Music. Later on, he also appeared in Murder by Decree and The Return of the Pink Panther. Lately, he has provided the voice of Rizzo in Heroes of the Golden Masks.
14. Bob Barker, 97
Bob Barker achieved fame as the host of The Price is Right from 1972 to 2007. But before that, he also hosted a comparatively less famous show, Truth or Consequences. Only a few people know that Barker voiced Bob Barnacle on an episode of Spongebob Squarepants! Today he is nearly 100 years old.
15. Cicely Tyson, 96
Cicely Tyson was a fashion model but is now an actress who has been in the industry for over 70 years. Over the decades, Tyson has been famous for playing strong African-American female protagonists. Surprisingly, she is still active on stage and in TV shows. In 2020, she portrayed Miss Luma Lee Langston in the TV series Cherish the Day and Alice in the movie A Fall From Grace.
16. Tippi Hedren, 91
Tippi Hedren started out as a model but later got to know Alfred Hitchcock and starred in The Birds in 1963. Over the decades, she has performed in over 80 movies and TV series, and she has not retired from acting just yet. Her latest projects include the TV show Cougar Town in 2013 and the film The Ghost and the Whale in 2017.
17. Tommy Lee Jones, 74
Tommy Lee Jones made himself a household name for his roles in Batman Forever, The Fugitive, and Men in Black. Notably, his impressive performance in The Fugitive garnered him numerous awards. Recently, he starred as Duke Montana in The Comeback Trail and as Jimmy Cleats in Wander.
18. Billy Dee Williams, 83
Star Wars fans must be familiar with Billy Dee Williams, the actor behind Lando Calrissian. To their relief, he is still alive and kicking in the acting world. More surprisingly, he reprised Lando in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
19. Julie Andrews, 85
In the prime of her career, she left us with uncountable classic roles. But the most impressive was surely her roles in The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins. In 2008, she portrayed Karathen in Aquaman and voiced Marlena in Minions: The Rise of Gru. Though now in her 80s, she isn't held back by her age.
20. Ann-Margret, 79
The Swedish-American actress was a good singer and dancer, and these talents got her a nickname, "The Female Elvis." She clearly deserved the name. Ann-Margret was featured in musical films like Bye Bye Birdie and Viva Las Vegas. Besides, she also covered a few Elvis songs like Heartbreak Hotel.
21. Carole Cook, 97
Carole Cook is known for her performances in musical theater, film, and TV. She was a protégé of actress Lucille Ball, and starred in Broadway musicals like 42nd Street and Hello, Dolly! Cook hasn't appeared in many dramas since 2006. However, she has continued to appear in films and TV shows, including Waiting in the Wings: Still Waiting and Break a Hip.
22. Sidney Poitier
You may be familiar with Sidney Poitier, who regularly appeared in the big movies like Porgy, Bess, and The Greatest Story Ever Told. Besides these roles, he has also made a career as a notable film director. His last big part was as Henry Cobb in The Last Brickmaker in America in 2001. Since then, he has rarely appeared as an actor.
